New Moon in Capricorn

This week we have a New Moon in Capricorn on December 30 at 5:27 pm EDT (find your time here).

The last New Moon of 2024.

And this one is a Black Moon (the second New Moon in a calendar month, as we also had a New Moon on December 1).

The Moon in Capricorn is typically focused on the long-term vision. The goals at the top of our personal mountain and all the steps we need to take to get there. Capricorn gives us the clear vision to see past the clouds of today and into the blue skies of tomorrow.

You might see some astrologers talk about how this New Moon in Capricorn is perfect for setting goals for 2025. I don’t think that’s really the focus of this New Moon.

I think this New Moon is here to help us wrap up 2024. We’re not getting ahead of ourselves and saying hello to 2025 just yet. After all, Mars is still retrograde and Mercury doesn’t technically leave it’s post-retrograde shadow until January 2, even though it is currently direct.

Capricorn, the sign of this New Moon, is ruled by Saturn, the planet of time, boundaries, and structure. Saturn is the taskmaster planet that will not let your progress without showing you are committed and willing to do the work. And Saturn is heavily involved in this New Moon chart.

This New Moon features Jupiter square Saturn and Mercury square Saturn - both of which combine to make a T-square with, you guessed it, Saturn. So we have friction with Jupiter and Mercury. Mercury can mean we are tempted to put too much on our plate. Jupiter in play can indicate that we’re overeager to start building when the foundation isn’t in place yet.

So what do we do? We look to Saturn. We take responsibility and accountability for our plans and actions. We make sure we tend to the foundation first. We say no to the thing we don’t have time for even though our inner people pleaser gets really uncomfortable at the idea. We make sure we’re making time for us, because without tending to our own self-care, we’re just drowning while trying to save others.

What structures can you put in place to ensure you are healthy and happy? What routines do you need to tend to that will mean in a year from now you’ve got more to give instead of trying to beat back burnout? That’s the focus for this New Moon.
